Lorraine Hansberry
Author Lorraine Hansberry was born today in 1930. Her most famous work, A Raisin in the Sun,
was inspired by her family's legal battle against racially segregated housing laws in the
Washington Park Subdivision of the South Side of Chicago during her childhood.
Patricia R. Harris
Today in 1965, Patricia R. Harris was appointed as ambassador to Luxembourg,
the first woman African American ambassador.
